Two young architects faced their first major challenge, the planning and approval of a single-family home for a young family with three children in Meerbusch Büderich. The project posed significant demands, as the house needed to meet the modern needs of the clients while blending harmoniously with the existing residential area. The clients wanted a bright, family-friendly home with an open floor plan. However, the plot was narrow and located in a densely built area, requiring careful planning. The house was designed to have two floors. The ground floor would feature a spacious living area with direct access to the garden. Large glass surfaces were intended to allow plenty of natural light into the house. In addition to the glass facade, brickwork was integrated into the design to provide a connection to the traditional architectural style of the neighborhood and add durability to the building. The upper floor was designed to provide private spaces for the family, including two children’s rooms. A highlight of the design was a rooftop terrace offering a wide view of the surrounding area. One of the main challenges was the approval process. The large glass surfaces and the elevated position of the house, combined with the use of Klinker, raised concerns from both neighbors and local authorities. The architects worked closely with the local building authorities, developing solutions that balanced the needs of the clients with the privacy concerns of the neighborhood. The Klinker facade, in particular, helped soften the modern aesthetic, making the design more acceptable to local regulations. After extensive discussions, the building permit was granted. The single-family home in Meerbusch Büderich is not only a modern home for the young family but also a successful example of the balance between architectural ambition and practical solutions. The combination of glass and Klinker ensures both a modern look and a connection to the local architectural tradition. For the two architects, it was a key milestone in their careers, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities in professional architectural planning.
